  • Sports are free for the public to attend! View the sports schedule to find the date and times of events you want to watch.

  • Athletes Village is located at Winnipeg’s historic site: The Forks. This site is located in the downtown core adjacent to where the Red River and Assiniboine River meet. The Forks is Winnipeg’s number one tourist destination, attracting more than four million visitors annually. The 54-acre site offers year round shopping at The Forks Market and Johnston Terminal, along with a variety of dining experiences, including organic bakery goods, multicultural cuisine, casual restaurants, fine dining and a food court as well as a picturesque festival and event sites that host countless events and festivals each year.

    To attend athletes village you must have athlete or family and friends accreditation.

  • The 2023 World Police & Fire Games will occur over a total of 10 days and run from July 28 – August 6, 2023.

  • 2023 WPFG opening ceremonies will be held on July 28 at the Canada Life Centre, at 300 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba. It will begin at 7:00 PM CST

  • The Closing Ceremony and Volunteer Appreciation BBQ will take place on August 6th. Doors open at the Athletes Village (The Forks) at 4:00 PM CST.

    Formal Closing Ceremony will begin at 5:00pm CST.

  • Yes, all sport competitions are free to attend. Opening and closing ceremonies are free for accredited family and friends to attend. The Games offer a family and friends program that provides additional access to athletes, family, and friends to many Games’ services and events including Athletes Village.

  • The cost of registration is $165 USD.

  • Sport/Team costs are determined by the host organizing committee and approved by the World Police & Fire Games Federation. These costs/fees will be confirmed and communicated at the same time registration fees will be after the conclusion of the 2022 Rotterdam WPFG. Please check the individual sport page on the Winnipeg 2023 website for these fees when registration opens.

  • Eligibility is determined by the World Police and Fire Games Federation. Eligibility rules and criteria can be found here on their website: https://cpaf.org/wpfg-eligibility/

  • Please send an email to the WPFG Federation to obtain an invitation letter.

    • Email address that letter is to be sent to. (if multiple requests are in one email, that's fine. It can be send as a batch for distribution)

  • The first step is to ensure you are eligible to compete in the games. Please review eligibility on our eligibility page (www.wpfg2023.com/eligibility).

    If you are eligible and your agency is not listed when you search under Your Agency:

    Type in your agency as listed on your agency ID in the Agency Not Listed section and continue with your registration. The Federation will review and verify. If they have any questions or concerns, they will contact you directly.

  • You can take an athlete shuttle bus from the Convention Centre, or through public transportation. More information can be found here

PISTOL/RIFLE FAQs

  • Yes, some - but not all - firearms can be imported into Canada. You must complete two forms before travelling to Canada. Application fees will be applied.

    1. Non-resident Firearm Declaration - Form RCMP 5589

  • WPFG 2023 is not authorised to provide firearms to competitors.

    You are free to find an individual/club/public or commercial entity to sponsor you

    and provided borrowed/rented firearms, but unfortunately WPFG 2023 cannot assist with finding a sponsor for any competitor or providing references to anyone.

  • Yes. Please refer to the following documents:

    1. s. 84 Criminal Code of Canada

    2. Firearms Act

    3. Maximum permitted magazine capacity

    Additional Information:

    General rules (referred in the Entry Book).

    • Handguns with a barrel length equal to or less than 105 mm in length are prohibited in Canada, and you will not be allowed to import such a firearm into Canada, even for the purposes of the sporting competition.

    • Automatic firearms, whether or not they have been altered to discharge only one projectile with one pressure of the trigger, are prohibited in Canada, and you will not be allowed to import such a firearm into Canada, even for the purposes of the sporting competition.

    • Magazines that exceed the maximum capacity are prohibited by virtue of the Criminal Code of Canada and cannot be imported into Canada. Possession of a large capacity magazine that has been permanently altered so that it cannot hold more than the number of cartridges allowed by law, is legal in Canada. The Criminal Code Regulations describe acceptable ways to alter a magazine. It is illegal to import unaltered large capacity magazines. Maximum magazine capacity permitted are:

      • 5 cartridges for most magazines designed for semi-automatic, KO centre-fire long guns;

      • 10 cartridges for most handgun magazines.

    Restricted firearms include:

    • Handguns that are not prohibited firearms;

    • Firearms that:

      • Are not prohibited firearms,

      • Have a barrel less than 470 mm in length,

      • Are capable of discharging centre-fire ammunition in a semi-automatic manner

    • Firearms designed or adapted to be fired when reduced to a length of less than 660 mm by folding, telescoping or otherwise, and

    • Firearms of any other kind prescribed to be restricted in the Canadian Regulations.

  • As per Criminal Code of Canada, Air Rifle deemed not to be firearm ONLY:

    • If it is proved that the weapon is not designed or adapted to discharge

      (i) a shot, bullet or other projectile at a muzzle velocity exceeding 152.4 m per second or at a muzzle energy exceeding 5.7 Joules, or (ii) a shot, bullet or other projectile that is designed or adapted to attain a velocity exceeding 152.4 m per second or an energy exceeding 5.7 Joules.

    Most of the latest Air rifle models have a muzzle velocity exceeding 152.4 m/s and muzzle energy exceeding 5.7 Joules.

    Therefore, paperwork must be completed.

  • RBC Convention Centre (375 York Avenue, Winnipeg) will have supervised, secured and staffed firearms storage (room 2G) for the duration of the event.

  • Ammunition MUST be stored in a separate locked storage box apart from firearms storage box. Ammunition storage will be available at the RBC Convention Centre (375 York Avenue, Winnipeg), same location as the firearms storage (room 2G).

  • Storage will be free of charge for the athletes competing in one of the following sports: Biathlon, Pistol PAP, Pistol PPC, Rifle Air, Rifle Small Bore , Rifle Large Bore, Trap, Skeet, and Sporting Clays.

  • Storage will be open on July 26 and the last day of operation will be August 07.

    Storage will be under 24/7 security.

    Operation hours:

    July 26th: 09:00-19:00

    July 27th: 09:00-19:00

    July 28th: 07:00-16:00

    July 29th - August 5th: 06:00-19:00

    August 6th: 09:00-19:00

    August 7th: 09:00-19:00

  • For safety reasons, it is strongly discouraged to store firearms at the hotel. Each athlete is responsible for the firearm to be stored in a safe manner in accordance with Canadian law.

  • Each athlete is responsible for their ammunition and it must be stored safely and in accordance with Canadian law. Ammunition MUST be placed in a lockable storage box, separate from your firearm storage box.

    Ammunition storage will be available at the RBC Convention Centre (375 York Avenue, Winnipeg), same location as the firearms storage (room 2G).

  • Athlete`s accreditation or Passport AND Non-Resident Firearm Declaration Form (RCMP5589) or Canadian PAL (Possession and Acquisition License) will serve as the documents accepted to drop off/pick up firearms at the storage.

  • Yes. In order to purchase ammunition, it is necessary to have a valid RCMP5589 declaration; this will serve as a Canadian Firearms License (PAL - Possession and Acquisition License) during the period of validity.

  • Firearms storage will operate until August 7, 2023. Any firearm not picked up by the end of the operational hours on August 7 will be handed over to relevant authorities as an item with no assigned ownership.

  • Firearms must be securely packed so that no part of the firearm is visible. Firearms must be unloaded. It is recommended to use a hard case with a lock to store the firearm.

    Unless on a WPFG range as part of the competition, international competitors are not authorised to carry any type of firearm (or other regulated object) in a holster or in a ready-for duty condition. Trigger lock must be in place in order to store firearms at the RBC Convention Centre firearms storage.

  • Bass Pro / Cabela's Canada will have ammunition for sale prior to the event. Special discounted prices will be offered to accredited athletes.

    It is recommended that ammunition orders are placed by July 15, 2023.

  • WPFG 2023 will NOT be responsible for transport of ammunition for any athletes.

    Orders made through Cabela's will be available for pick up at the RBC Convention Centre next to the Firearms storage.

  • No ammunition will be sold at the venues.

  • There will be sufficient space for each competitor`s firearm at the storage. No need to prebook a storage space.

  • You can leave leftover ammunition at the RBC Convention Centre firearms/ammunition storage. WPFG 2023 will take care of any disposal
